LECH, AUSTRIA

We used to do this thing called “traveling” many moons ago. We miss it. It is one of our very favourite things to do. In this brave new world of COVID certificates, we decided to brush off our old gear and set off for an adventure. We rented a car – a first for us in Switzerland – and drove a few hours away to Lech, Austria. Evelyn was delighted to go for a trip “to the mountains” as if it was something new and novel and not at all like we don’t live a stones throw away from any mountains…
We went on hikes (well… Parker and I did, the girls were carried), swam, snuggled, waved at cows, explored playgrounds, and ate all the food. In true dramatic flair, our time in Lech was bookended with bouts of vomit from the two year old. (We discovered that she has inherited her mother’s tendency to motion sickness). This – as well as the tiredness the parents felt and juggling acts of mealtime – served as a reminder that we were not on vacation but rather a family trip. Perhaps we will have a real vacation someday but for now we are very grateful for time spent as a family in such a beautiful place and wouldn’t trade it for the biggest plate of Kaiserschmarrn or Apfelstrudel.
