Switzerland, we have learned, has very different public/bank holidays than we are used to in the US. This is particularly true during the Easter Season. One such holiday, the Feast of the Ascension, was conveniently timed to give us a long weekend to meet up with college friends, Glenn and Natasha, who were traveling through Europe. We met them in Interlaken (in the mountainous Bernese Oberland region of central Switzerland) and traveled via several regional trains to begin a hike in Grindelwald. True to Swiss form, everywhere you looked was picturesque. We had a great time hiking (accidentally climbing over 1,000 feet…), stuffing our faces with all the potatoes (looking at you rösti), and catching up with our friends. We ended the evening by continuing to Geneva. The next morning, Glenn and Natasha headed on to another friend’s wedding in France, and Parker and I returned to Interlaken for a lovely night in an adorable b&b. We returned home the next day feeling well rested and accomplished from exploring more of our new home.
